Week 3 Journal Entry
Part 1
Last week I noted that I am not an effective note taker and my notes are subpar. The link to study tips had a section on note take techniques, and one way that stuck out to me was the split page technique. You separate your textbook notes you take outside of class, and on the other side you take notes during class and keep those on the other side. And there is also a chance if you want to write questions in a third column. This reminds me of Cornell notes! There are a lot of good strategies on the website for all sorts of problems that I can refer back to when I need help.
Part 2
This week we dove into our individual learning plans which is the timeline of the courses we'd take, and researched about the classes we would take during our time in this program. There were 12 courses we looked at and had to summarize and see if they were important to CS majors. We also had an OLI module that helped us gather what kind of learning style and group style we are in a project. I am a "Get Along" type person which means I want to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy together when working, and will sacrifice my wants for others. Lastly we dove into ethics in the computer science area, along with ethics in AI. There is sort of a code when it comes to ethics and it is not a one solution fits all. Different issues will need to be looked at with different principles relevant to that issue. Things like being honest, fair, avoiding harm, and keeping confidentiality are a few principles.
Part 3
After reading "What a Computer Science Major Needs to Know" I realized that a resume is not the only thing we need. A diverse work portfolio is to show employers we can do real world jobs. Along with that, in my free time I need to be learning or staying on top of the programming languages I don't and do know, respectively. This I have to be better about as I am rusty after I take time off. Also mathematics is key for CS majors, which I was a math major so I am not worried about that as I am very fond of math.
Part 4
Integrity is important in all aspects of life. It makes you credible and it shows you are a high character person. In a team setting, if you cheat or ruin your integrity, you jeopardize your whole team and their project as a result of your selfishness. It is okay to use outside sources and get help, just cite it or note the aid you received and your integrity will still be kept and you will not encounter any consequences.
