Week 2 Journal Post
Part 1
One thing that I am good at is knowing when I am capable of studying at 100%. If I am not rested and capable of comprehending what I am studying, I know to put it away for another day or later after I eat or get rest. Another thing I do well is that I revise my schedule when changes need to occur. If my coach or teacher changes or cancels a practice or class, I know I can readjust my schedule as I'll have more free time or less time to study and I plan accordingly. Last thing I do well is that I get the main point easily. I can pinpoint the main idea in a paragraph to make studying easier.
Things I am not good at include studying anywhere. Mentally I can not focus if I am not in my room by myself. I need to be able to utilize libraries or study spaces to get the most effectiveness of studying. I also read out loud or move my lips when studying. I thought it was beneficial but now I know it is not and will be more conscious to just read in my head what I am studying. And lastly my note taking skills are subpar. I do not do a good job as my notes usually are chicken scratch and random notes.
Part 2
Here is a screenshot of my weekly schedule this week. Two Screenshots as it was too big.
8-12 everyday Monday-Saturday is basketball as well. I have lots of open time to be able to adjust my schedule if I have to.
Part 3
A project is a temporary endeavor to create a unique product, each one will be different from others. There is always a goal of the project, and an amount of time to complete it. This is called the project scope, which is always unique. A project must relate to a business strategy for a market need or business need to name a couple. Project managers manage projects and hold themselves and everyone else accountable to get the project done and on time. They need to have full control on anything and everything and have to be able to immediately take action when needed. They have the expertise to get the project completed.
In product management it is key to make sure there is a work breakdown structure (WBS) which lists all the deliverables of the tasks. Deliverables are products, capabilities, or results. The best way to organize a WBS would be from a hierarchical structure from Project to workstream, to deliverable, to sub-deliverable.
There is also a Gantt chart, which shows the schedule of a projected project and the time needed to complete each task and where you should be on specific days. There is also a level of urgency to the tasks as each task depends on the ones before so knowing what order to do them in matters. Gnatt charts are great ways to know if you are on schedule with a project.
Part 4
Security Scan/US Naval Research Lab
This project was great as they worked with the NRL hand in hand. They bridge the gap between the cybersecurity companies, and their clients to make sure both parties are on the same page and confident in the work being done. I thought the project was well done and attacks a problem that many companies face. The presentation is very simple and to the point with nothing over the top that is distracting. The project could maybe include some photos so it is not just words on slides.
Open Energy Dashboard
This project was cool to watch as they had a video that had the project information in a very attention drawing video. This project saved emissions and finances for companies which is so important in today's age given the climate discussions. The presentation was fun to watch and very informative. Not much I could say to improve on.
dKOMP
This project aims to help business owners manage their employees and roles. This idea is good as many companies could benefit from this if they are just starting up to make sure everything runs smooth. The presentation included videos as well which could have been a bit more exciting, but they got the point across nonetheless. The presentation was able to encompass everything they needed in a simple and effective manner.
Part 5: Summary of the Week
This week we expanded on our outline of our industry analysis paper. The bulk of our research came this week as we found sources and produced full content. It has been a while since I have written a research paper, and my first time writing one in APA format so it is good that I am practicing! My time management has been good this week and had minimal stress and lots of time to complete assignments. Along with the essay we also learned about what factors create good teams, how we can improve our qualities in our team for the benefit of everyone, we learned what a project is and how to plan accordingly to finish a project on time and with goals.
First, I like the fact that you set time aside each Wednesday to review the assignments you had completed the week prior, I believe that is incredibly important. Second, I think allotting time to take mental breaks will play a key role in how well you retain the information you've just learned.
