Week 4 Journal Entry

Part One: Set Your Educational Goals

Education for me growing up has always been important. My parents strive to make me the best I can be and use me hard. So my goal right now is to continue to get smarter obviously but more specifically is to get my bachelors degree and maintain a 4.0 in the online program. So far in my college career I have only had 2 B's so I would like to get back to my 4.0 status and really become knowledgeable in what I am studying.


Part Two: Set Your Career Goals

Setting a career goal is a bit difficult for me as I have a long way to go before my career really takes off. A goal that I can think of though is to obtain an internship in the computer science field in the next year somehow, but if that is too difficult I have another goal. This goal is to complete 3 independent projects by the end of the calendar year to get my portfolio going. 


Part Three: Take a wild guess of your percentile of the ETS Computer Science test

After looking at the ETS Computer Science Test I think I would roughly be around the 50th percentile. I feel confident in my basic programming knowledge and computer architecture knowledge but there is still a lot for me to learn in the next 18 months to improve on!


Part Four: Keep Up With Your Learning Journal

During this module we learned a lot about goal setting and making sure our goals can be obtained and are reasonable. The 7 goals are a great tool to have to look how to improve our professional career. Along with that we discussed our AI could affect our career and employers. We debated if it would be a good or bad thing to use in our work life. We also had an outline about a debatable technological issue and we have to pick a side. This essay is intriguing because the issues me and other classmates have discussed are very crucial in today's world and heavily debated.

    I hope you can obtain the 4.0 status you're working towards, but I have higher hopes that you are able to retain and learn as much as you can. As for your career goals, I am sure you will come up with some quality projects to add to your portfolio.

 Part 1 One thing that I am good at is knowing when I am capable of studying at 100%. If I am not rested and capable of comprehending what I am studying, I know to put it away for another day or later after I eat or get rest. Another thing I do well is that I revise my schedule when changes need to occur. If my coach or teacher changes or cancels a practice or class, I know I can readjust my schedule as I'll have more free time or less time to study and I plan accordingly. CST 334 Week 7

This week in week 7 in CST 334, we learned about file systems IO devices, and persistent storage management. We learned that files serve as a key abstraction provided by the operating system. They are linear arrays of bytes stored on a disk permanently. The files are organized into directories which form a hierarchical structure that maps human readable file names to lower level identifiers like inode numbers. To implement a file system you need to manage various on disk structures like data blocks, nodes, allocation bitmaps, and a superblock that has high level info about the file system. inodes also store metadata like file size, ownership and block pointers. we then saw file systems layouts like system V file system, which has a centralized node table, and then the Berkeley Fast File System, FFS, which improves performance by grouping related data and meta data into cylinder groups. Week 1: About CSUMB and Online Learning Strategies

This week we learned a little bit of the history of CSUMB as well as information about the School of Computing and Design. It is cool to know in 1984 the school grew out of Fort Old. Not only that but in the SCD you can get a minor in "Communication Design" and "Computer Science and Information Systems." With starting our journey online, we also reviewed key strategies to succeed in online learning. Some tips to stay ahead are to plan study times, connect with classmates, ask questions when you need help, and to check in to the class page frequently. Staying up to date with the course is important as you could miss an assignment or an email that you need.  This week's assignments were pretty easy and a smooth start to the year. A few quizzes about videos, and then creating a LinkedIn and Blogger account, and uploading a video on an introduction to ourselves.
